Auditions for the youth string orchestra are 'for placement only'. Audition videos are used to determine the repertoire that will be performed, and to ensure that each student is challenged in a way to promote personal growth within an ensemble setting.

                      *All registrations will be processed through Frederick Community College

Date:    Registration Deadline: August 27, 2026

                  **Recommended to complete the Application/Interest form no later than August 22.  Time is needed to review videos and send

                  out registration links. No late registrations will be allowed.

Placement Audition Requirements:

​

     - Scales:  Students must play a scale of their choice, based on their current level. (1, 2, or 3 octave).

                            **If you have auditioned for all-county or all-state, it is recommended you use the same format.

​

     - Solo:  One solo of the student's choice.  Should be 1-3 minutes in length.  Students are welcome to submit recital recordings

                       performed within the last school year.  Ask your teacher, contact us if you have questions.

Audition Video Requirements:

​

     - Please ensure your hands, instrument, and face are all clearly visible 

​

     - To allow for a semi-blind audition process, please refrain from wearing any article of clothing that would suggest participation in a

         school, county, state, or national musical ensemble.

​

     - At the start of the audition video state your name, instrument, and the grade you will be in next fall.  If using a recorded recital, please

        be sure have your information in the description.

​

     - Each individual piece or excerpt and all scales should be performed continuously with no edits permitted. You may, however, stop the

        camera after each complete performance to reset if you would like.

​

     - Please submit your audition pieces in one single video.

​

     - Video Recordings must be uploaded to when you Submit your interest form here.

​

Application and what happens next:
